Top Players Will Protest Prize Money
Wimbledon increased the total purse by 10 percent two weeks ago to head off a repeat of the player protest at Roland Garros. It wasn’t enough. Stars will once again limit media availability to draw attention to their expectation for a greater share of revenue. In fact, they’re going even farther at Wimbledon, extending their limited media availability from just the pre-tournament media day throughout the first week. Chris Evert to Miss Wimbledon After Cancer Announcement
Our hearts go out to Chris Evert, who announced yesterday that her ovarian cancer has returned for a third time and she will not work Wimbledon this year. We will miss her and wish her the very best. If there’s one thing Evert has proven on and off the court, it’s that she is an extraordinary fighter.
The update came a day before Netflix dropped the documentary Chris & Martina: The Final Set, for which JW was a writer and executive producer. Christiane Amanpour interviewed both women for CNN.
