Alcaraz Beats Fritz to Win Japan Open
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the Japan Open final early Tuesday, winning his eighth title of 2025 and the 24th of his career, tying Alexander Zverev for the most by any man born since 1990. The World No. 1 has now won his last three tournaments.
Despite the loss, Fritz is projected to climb to No. 4 in the rankings, passing Novak Djokovic, and move up to No. 5 in the ATP Live Race to Turin.
Meanwhile at the ATP 500 in Beijing, Jannik Sinner reached the final after beating Alex de Minaur 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. The Italian reached the 30th title match of his career and his ninth consecutive hard court final. He’ll face Learner Tien on Wednesday, who advanced to his first ATP final after Daniil Medvedev retired due to injury.
Gauff Secures WTA Finals Spot, Advances to Beijing Quarters
Defending champion Coco Gauff beat Belinda Bencic 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 Tuesday morning to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 China Open. The win also secured the two-time major winner’s spot in the WTA Finals for the fourth consecutive year. Gauff will face Eva Lys who advanced over McCartney Kessler.
Amanda Anisimova and Jasmine Paolini both look to reach the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek will face Emma Navarro in the Round of 16. Mirra Andreeva and Jess Pegula also look to advance to the quarterfinals with wins on Wednesday.
The final is scheduled for Sunday, October 5.
