BJK Cup: Italy Rolls USA to Defend Title
Italy successfully defended its Billie Jean King Cup title with a 2-0 sweep of the United States in Sunday’s finals. Elisabetta Cocciaretto upset Emma Navarro 6-4, 6-4 to give Italy the early lead, and Jasmine Paolini sealed the victory by defeating Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-2.
Italy captured its sixth women’s world title since 2006 and moves to fourth-most all time.
Paolini said she hopes Italy’s success can inspire the next generation of tennis players.
Swiatek Wins 25th Title at Korea Open
Iga Swiatek shook off early struggles and capitalized in the deciding moments to beat Ekaterina Alexandrova 1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 in the WTA 500 Korea Open Final on Sunday. Swiatek won her third title of the season despite being broken five times, committing nine double faults, and having fewer total points than Alexandrova in the match.
The World No. 2 became the first player born in the 2000s, man or woman, to reach 25 career titles.
Swiatek also claimed her 57th match win of the year, surpassing Aryna Sabalenka for the most wins on tour; across both the ATP and WTA tours, only Carlos Alcaraz has won more matches this season (61).
Chengdu & Hangzhou Open Finals Preview
Top seed Lorenzo Musetti meets Alejandro Tabilo in the Chengdu Open final Tuesday morning.
At the Hangzhou Open, Alexander Bublik became the fourth man this season to reach a final on all three surfaces. The No. 3 seed will face French qualifier Valentin Royer, who is making his first ATP Tour final appearance.
